Sculling Learn to Row

2011 Registration is open - See calendar for currently scheduled classes, email for questions.

  • The Learn To Row (LTR), classes are designed to help interested people become member rowers.

  • Basic requirement are:

    Rowers must be able to swim, tread water, be comfortable in the river and capable of carrying 30lbs.

    Rowing can be a strenuous activity and you should be in good health. If you cannot make the transition from the dock to the rowing shell unassisted (sit in the boat, and get out), then you may not be able to participate in this activity.  You will be required to master the art of carrying your equipment to the water.

  • The Sculling LTR session will take about 12 hours of instruction and accompanied rowing.  A session consists of 6 - 2hr classes or a combination of periods amounting to 12 hrs.

  • Adjustments may be necessary due to weather.

  • LTR Sculling training will be scheduled whenever we have 4 registered individuals.

  • Constraints will be the availability of instructor time and weather issues.

  • Following the LTR rowers will be required to row with a "buddy" until the rowers achieve sufficient proficiency to row on their own.

    • Expectations for Program:

      Enable participating rowers in becoming capable of handling a Rowing Shell on their own;

      Develop rowing ability and the capacity to further develop in the sport;

      Achieve sufficient proficiency to become independent novice MRA Rower;
