Message from
the Coaches
Hi everyone,
Thanks for expressing interest in the
Mon Rowing Association's new youth rowing program, open to high
school age students. This community program is not affiliated with
any one high school, and is open to male and female student athletes
from the greater Morgantown area. No prior experience with rowing is
necessary, but you must be a swimmer able to tread water.
We are building the youth program into
a competing crew, and are hoping to head to our first race this
summer. As we are a new group, everyone is learning about the sport
of rowing, proper technique and terminology, and getting you
comfortable in the boat together. All in all, it is our goal to help
you to become proficient at one of the oldest competitive sports
with a great number of collegiate opportunities.
We are excited by the number of you
who have already come forward for this developing team. If you
haven’t made it out yet, please send an email
(youth@monrowing.org )
letting us know you are interested and giving us an idea of your
summer availability.
Practices will be offered 5x per week
during the summer with a mandatory commitment of 3 practices each
week. Practices usually run a little over 2 hours. If you are coming
to practice for your first time, please wear a t-shirt, shorts that
aren’t loose, a pair of socks, and sneakers to wear around the
boathouse and on the dock. Also, be sure to bring a water bottle.
Our 2011 Summer
schedule starts June 6th and runs until school starts in the fall.
New rowers can come try out the sport for a week to gauge their
interest. If you decide to join, the fee for the summer program is
$100.
Thanks for your interest,
Dave, Katherine, and Simon
